I think of taking this little guy to make children familar with lizards. Is it a good choise, or should I look for another of it's kind?

a bearded dragon would be a better choice for children, they are alot hardier than leopard geckos they are also diurnal, and once matured they will quite happily sit on your shoulder when your doing the house work or watching the tv,

also both bearded dragon and leopard geckos need uv lighting alot of research has been done and leopard geckos skin is up to 80% more acceptable to uv rays as they are a nocturnal species and need to soak up as much as possible they also need it to metabolise calcium

Leopard geckos are an excellent choice for beginner reptile keepers and families seeking a pet lizard. Younger leopard geckos can offer a little bit challenging to handle as they are swift and nervous, but the more you handle them, the tamer they will become; this bonding and taming of your lizard will provide fun for the whole family. A tame adult can be held with little to no struggle and provides an excellent companion. Unlike some other lizards, its speed is manageable and its claws do not cut skin, and it will rarely bite. The one thing to look out for is not to hold its tail for leopard geckos have detachable tails; unlike most lizards, they store fat (which is also a source of energy) in their tails and growing a new tail/drawing energy can sometimes prove challenging and even deadly to a leopard gecko; seeing as how their handling is simple and pressure should never be used when handling one, this is easily avoided.

Caring for a leopard gecko is also very simple, heat must be provided night and day (cooler at night, provide at least 10 to 12 hours of light during the day, a timer can keep you on schedule), they do not require UVB/UVA as these lizards are nocturnal and are rarely exposed to sunlight in the wild. Provide your gecko with fresh water on a daily basis and 3-5 crickets every two days for a juvenile, slowly increasing the dose to 10-15 every two days for a full grown gecko. The environment is a gecko’s tank (15-20 gallons minimum for an adult pair) should be rocky/desert (bear in mind, although these lizards originate from Pakistan and Afghanistan, they dwell in the mountains and rarely go down to the desert), substrate should be aspen or non-clomping/non-sand/non-rock soil.

Having a lizard is a great experience, but only go for it if you are willing to care for it for its entire life (10-15 years), it will eat live food and require care every day. I have drawn my experience with these fabulous lizards from my job and from keeping a few at home.

They are a good choice for children. And they dont take up much space. They are also nocturnal which you should bear in mind.

They can be fast and need researching like any pet before you buy.
