Question

Gravid Leopard Gecko?

Hi,my gravid female leopard gecko is eating only 12-13 mealworms a day.She doesn't take crickets when I offer them to her, once in a while she will take 1 but it is very rare.To date, she has laid 2 clutches..1st clutch with 1 egg and the second clutch has 2 eggs.she started off weighing 60g when I mated her but then went to 62g and after she laid an egg,58g and went up by a gram shortly after that. Then she laid her second clutch and is now weighing 54grams.

Is this normal for a female leopard gecko?

Thanks,
Fiona

This sounds completely normal. The amount she is eating is fine. I had a female who was gravid and laid a total of 8 eggs in the whole season and didn't seem to eat much at all. She went down from about 65g to a little over 40g but after she laid her last clutch she went right back onto eating and has since fattened right back up again. The weight loss she has experienced sounds very small and nothing to worry about, just keep giving her the option to eat as much as she likes and then if she wants it, it's there, if not, I'm sure she will be fine untill she lays her last clutch. If she then doesn't put on any weight she may have a problem, but, I'm sure that she will. Good luck with her remaining clutches!
